The role is to lead the design, development, implementation and management of all Environmental policies, processes, procedures and frameworks aligned with our goals to deliver best in class measurable performance and behaviours.
To ensure that all environmental interventions, resources, measures, processes and systems support, drive and deliver the needs of the business and reflect the standards, strategic objectives and the Vision and Values of the Company.
Maintain all environmental certifications on behalf of the organisation and liaise with business development to ensure a best in approach is taken.
It is expected that improvements and efficiencies are continually identified and implemented by the post holder.
To promote the Company internally and externally through industry bodies, our current and perspective client base, supply chain and competitors demonstrating best practice initiatives.
Provide advice, guidance and solutions in relation to current and emerging legal requirements and industry standards to assist in a competitive advantage for the Company.
Advise the company on how to continually improve performance standards whilst ensuring risk to the company and stakeholders is minimised.
Main Duties & Responsibilities of the Role
Understand the company environmental position, achievements to date and drive the agenda towards a carbon neutral aspiration
Manage all aspects of the impacts of environmental/sustainability legislation on the Company’s business activities.
Responsible for the Company’s Environmental Management systems (14001 ISO)
Responsible for the Company’s Sustainability Management system (BES 6001) and the sourcing of construction products
Management of the Company’s Carbon Emission reduction scheme
External reporting for the Carbon reduction commitment
Monitoring and ensuring compliance in the Company’s activities carried out under the Environmental permit
Developing and implementing environmental and sustainability strategies and action plans to ensure corporate sustainable development
Promoting and raising awareness, at all levels of the Company, on the impact of emerging environmental and sustainability issues.
Auditing, analysing and reporting environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies.
Training staff at all levels in environmental issues and responsibilities.
Leading on corporate social responsibility issues and action plans.
Co-ordinating all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy.
Carrying out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organisation’s environmental risks and financial costs
Scope of the role/ Geographic area of responsibility:
Based at the global headquarters in Bury Lancashire the role will require nationwide travel across the UK visiting our fabrication facilities and construction sites. There will be a requirement to collaborate with our international operations although travel overseas is not anticipated.

Lead the development of Environmental strategy and policy for the Business taking account of operations outside of the UK.

Liaise and coordinate with industry bodies to be seen as a thought leader and ambassador of the organisation on environmental matters.
Lead the design, development and implementation of environmental interventions that enhance the performance and reputation of the Business and that exceed industry, competitor and legislative standards.
Ensure positive communication and engagement of the key stakeholders within the Company, Government, Clients, Competitors and workforce.
Record, audit, measure and improve environmental performance through business-critical indicators and external benchmarking.
Design, deliver and promote a positive employee culture towards environmental matters that are aligned to the Company vision and foster positive ethical and social solutions.
Provide monthly performance results relating to our positive impacts and also practical solutions for areas of improvement and/or continuous improvement opportunities.
Act as the principal contact for the Environment Agency on behalf of the Company or equivalent bodies inside and outside the United Kingdom.
Work with our business development colleagues to ensure bid collateral is up to date, accurate and best in class.
Design and deliver bespoke, practical and impactful training material suitable for all levels of Interserve colleagues.
Build a network of environmental champions across the organisation.
Make environmental management a business value that delivers measurable benefit and has a recognisable identity.
Devise and implement the Company’s strategy to reach the target of carbon neutral by 2025.

High level understanding of the framework of Environmental legislation and a good understanding of all prevailing standards and initiatives.

Ability to produce and manage budgets
