Purpose of Job

The Assistant Accountant role is designed to support the Financial Controller, ensuring the transactional and reporting responsibilities of the Finance Department are delivered. Being well organised, self-motivated, punctual, and flexible in their approach to work is essential as well as being a team-player.

Key Objectives

Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions to support reliable reporting, including month-end uploads.

Demonstrate control over revenue and costs, explaining budgetary variances. Providing insightful productivity analysis and cashflow reporting.

Support annual budgets and monthly forecasts, implementing new controls and mechanisms to achieve accuracy.

Work collaboratively within the team to ensure month-end, year-end and audit requirements are delivered.

Main Responsibilities

Ensure accurate recording and upload of contract hours, stock allocation, material accruals and GRNI to projects.

Provide the Month-end Cost Report in a timely manner.

Payroll compilation including timely submission and journaling of costs to the ledger.

Ensure the cashflow’s accuracy is maintained and monitored on a weekly basis.

Support the Financial Controller in the delivery of Balance Sheet reconciliations (Bank, Intercompany, Health & Wellbeing, Debtors and Creditors).

Ensure accurate entry of Prepayments, Accruals, CAPEX, Depreciation, Expenses & Credit Cards.

Support the organisation by providing productivity reports, credit application reports, Health & Wellbeing reports and control of rebates and retentions.

Review and ensure accuracy of the Payment run for processing.

Ensure accuracy and submission of VAT and CIS returns.

Support strategic projects and departmental continuous improvement.

Provide P&L reporting for B-Tech and Aftersales departments.

Support the RDEC and Audit activities annually.

Any other Adhoc tasks as required

Performance Standards

Timely preparation and entry of transactional information.
Accuracy of forecasting and financial information.
Delivery of KPI’s agreed with the Financial Director.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Essential

Proven experience as an Assistant Accountant.

Solid knowledge of advanced accounting and financial principles.

A problem solver with attention to detail.

Strong communication skills across all levels of internal and external business. Effective written, verbal and IT skills (incl. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Excellent organisational skills.

Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships both face to face and via virtual means.

Ability to think and work independently (proactively set and monitor workloads and targets).

Ability to use your own initiative.

Desirable

Experience of Sage Line 50 and Progress Plus is beneficial.
Studying towards qualification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA).
