The company is looking for an experienced QA / RWC Manager with a Rail / Manufacturing steel bias. Lundy Projects have recently secured long term contracts that mean the role is a long-term position.
Job description
QA / RWC Manager role will require the right candidate to demonstrate experience in a similar role. Have a very good knowledge of Rail, fabrication in welding, and galvanising as.Will update the quality records and maintain procedures and systems of work to meet the requirements of RISQS / BS EN 1090 / NHSS20 and ISO 9001 for internal and external audits. A good knowledge of CE markings is desired but not essential. Update the quality records and maintain procedures and systems of work to meet the requirements of BS EN 1090 / NHSS20 and ISO 9001.This will involve following the Factory Production Control manual and cross-referencing documents and procedures with the company quality manual.
The role will be based in Irlam but will involve travel to the head office to ensure all quality records and procedures are compliant over both facilities.
The role will also require the person to control the day-to-day welding activities throughout the company. This includes ensuring Welders are qualified to BS EN 9606, qualified procedures are relevant to the work being produced, NDT testing is completed in accordance with the ITP, welding consumables are fit for purpose and stored correctly, 100% visual welding inspection is carried out by qualified welding inspectors and the WPS’s are followed accurately and regularly audited.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will be responsible for the monitoring and improvement of all aspects QA related to the fabrication and galvanising of structural steelwork. The role will ensure that all relevant projects, British and European standards have been met and adhered to. The up keep of all standards and procedures have been adhered to and that the work has met our own FPC requirements.
The role will require, but not limited to the following activities to be carried out,
Support senior management in developing the company and its efficiency for future works.
Support senior management in development of the company objectives and new markets.
Lead from the front and implement best practice throughout the department.
Confirm quality / routine checks are carried out and ensure output meets quality specification and compliance with quality policies and procedures.
Review at tender and contract award stage the fabrication and welding requirements ensuring the firm are compliant.
Review fabrication drawings and ensure a welding programme has been established by our un-house inspectors and maintained throughout the project.
Monitor, record any NCR’s, document, and ensure remedial actions for improvements are carried out.
Liaise with works manager / ensure the requirements of BS EN 1090 and BD EN ISO 3824-3 -NHSS20 are met and maintained
Carry out inspections to ensure steelwork has been manufactured in accordance with drawings and standards. Record and maintain all required records.
Final inspections before release
Monitor, record any NCR’s, document, and ensure remedial actions for improvements are carried out.
Liaise with client to ensure handover documentation is issued in a timely manner.
An ability to read and interpret drawings
An understanding of 3.1 material certificates
Knowledge of NDT techniques
Control the NCR process in accordance with the company quality manual
Collate and control NDT reports
Maintain welder qualification records
Maintain calibration schedule
Assist/ lead with various audits
Knowledge of galvanising
Maintain relevant Standards
Organise and produce Declaration of Performance certification
Compile quality packs to client requirements
Create purchase orders for NDT requirements
Organise weld tests for both new procedures and welder qualification co-operating with third party witnessing and certification services.
Advise on welding processes and equipment.
Ensure all inspection personnel are certified and competent.
Liaise with client to ensure handover documentation is issued in a timely manner.

Key Relationships Internal
Head of Safety and Compliance Manager – to support all objectives and report findings and possible improvements.
Production Manager – to assist the smooth running of the projects while assisting to improve and maintain standards
Technical Dept – to lead with early contract review to ensure standards and requirements are laid out in the ITP.
Administration – to cross check orders, invoices, delivery notes for goods received. Raise NCR’s and monitor until complete. Provide handover documentation to client.
Ensure Upkeep of all aspects of FPC.
External
Suppliers – Ensure any NCR’s have been rectified and actions put in place to prevent further occurrences.
Client – Establish project requirements during the project and handover requirements.
Ideal Candidate Skills
Steelwork engineer background / QA ambition
Ideally HNC qualified in a relevant field (Mechanical engineering)
RWC level 3.2 or above
Full understanding of RISQS auditing requirements
Proven QA / engineering background in fabricated steelwork
Fully Conversant with ISO 9001 CE markings / BS Standards. Specifically BS EN 1090 & BS 3834
Proactive in improving / monitoring production/ and auditing
Practical knowledge to allow interaction with production team
Prepared to assist in all aspects of manufacturing management
Good understanding of Microsoft excels / word, Auto CAD would be an advantage
Clean driving licence.
