We are recruiting for a permanent Stores Manager for one of the UK’s leading engineering companies based in the Birkenhead area.
Reporting to the Director of Procurement you will have up to 10 direct reports.
Your primary objective will be:
To ensure that all Goods/Materials/Equipment required at a workface on site (whether permanent or temporary works) are available when needed, fully compliant and with all necessary supporting documentation
To ensure the provision of the above service is provided and managed according to company process/procedure
To manage the stores team, introduce best practise and add value to the store’s operation
Your general day to day duties will include:
Manage the staffing requirements for stores including job descriptions, recruitment etc
Undertake all line management responsibilities of the store’s function/time and attendance /holiday planning / career progression etc
Prepare the annual budget for approval and manage the approved budget
Identify current and future user requirements by stakeholder engagement
Ensure all goods/material /equipment and tooling are available at the workface, on time, to the required quality standard, with all necessary documentation checked
Ensure the inspection/quarantine/rejection process is properly defined, necessary resources identified and then managed with quality and procurement colleagues
Secure goods/materials and equipment by implementing the appropriate levels of access controls/monitoring to the storage areas (inside and outside areas)
Work with SHEQ to ensure the stores team, users and the stored items are safe by monitoring the stores environment
Work with SHEQ to ensure all owned inventory controlled by stores is legally compliant
Contribute to the continued development of the procurement function by achieving objectives set
Ensure a proper control of inventory (hire or buy) including calibrations for owned items, the co-ordination of on and off hire for hired plant
Work with the finance function to development and communicate a consolidated/accurate weekly cost report to all managers with a cost control responsibility
Manage on the job cross training of stores personnel to promote development and to achieve multi-skilling
Ensure internal standards for quality and health and safety are met
Update procurement colleagues on stores performance, new initiatives, and other pertinent issues at regular forums
Implement continuous improvement with suggestions/recommendations for adding value to the business
Manage and maintain an emergency stock level
Support the Director of Procurement in developing a stores transformation plan and report monthly on progress
Be a champion under LRQA Regs
Qualification wise, a technical/engineering recognised qualification would be desirable as would IOSH Certification.
The successful candidate will have:
A minimum 10 years+ experience in a similar senior store’s role in a heavy engineering operational environment (not FMCG)
An engineering background (preferred)
Be accustomed to managing the entire lifecycle of the stores process
Experience of working in a matrix organisation
Experience of ensuring local governance/compliance with functional process/procedures
Best practice knowledge in terms of process, systems, controls of a stores function in a bespoke heavy engineering environment and be able to apply such to the role
Experience of the management and organisation of stores items (hire or buy) and personnel
Ideally, experience of business transformation, process re-engineering and the implementation of change specific to stores/site logistics.
